Book Summary: ____________________ COMING TO AMAZON PRIME ON 31ST MAY - STARRING DAVID TENNANT, MICHAEL SHEEN AND BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH 'Marvellously benign, ridiculously inventive and gloriously funny' Guardian ____________________ 'Armageddon only happens once, you know. They don't let you go around again until you get it right' According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, Judgement Day is almost upon us and the world's going to end in a week . . . Now people have been predicting the end of the world almost from its very beginning, so it's only natural to be sceptical when a new date is set for Judgement Day. But what if, for once, the predictions are right, and the apocalypse really is due to arrive next Saturday, just after tea? You could spend the time left drowning your sorrows, giving away all your possessions in preparation for the rapture, or laughing it off as (hopefully) just another hoax. Or you could just try to do something about it. It's a predicament that Aziraphale, a somewhat fussy angel, and Crowley, a fast-living demon now finds themselves in. They've been living amongst Earth's mortals since The Beginning and, truth be told, have grown rather fond of the lifestyle and, in all honesty, are not actually looking forward to the coming Apocalypse. And then there's the small matter that someone appears to have misplaced the Antichrist . . .

Book Summary: In the vein of Tuesdays with Morrie, a devoted protégé and friend of one of the world’s great thinkers takes us into the sacred space of the classroom, showing Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Elie Wiesel not only as an extraordinary human being, but as a master teacher. “Witness is beautiful, and important . . . A superb piece of writing.” — Parker Palmer, best-selling author of The Courage to Teach The world remembers Elie Wiesel—Nobel laureate, activist, and author of more than forty books, including Oprah’s Book Club selection Night—as a great humanist. He passed away in July 2016. Ariel Burger first met Elie Wiesel at age fifteen. They studied together and taught together. Witness chronicles the intimate conversations between these two men over decades, as Burger sought counsel on matters of intellect, spirituality, and faith, while navigating his own personal journey from boyhood to manhood, from student and assistant to rabbi and, in time, teacher. In this profoundly hopeful, thought-provoking, and inspiring book, Burger takes us into Elie Wiesel’s classroom, where the art of listening and storytelling conspire to keep memory alive. As Wiesel’s teaching assistant, Burger gives us a front-row seat witnessing these remarkable exchanges in and out of the classroom. The act of listening, of sharing these stories, makes of us, the readers, witnesses.

Book Summary: What happens when media and politics become forms of entertainment? As our world begins to look more and more like Orwell's 1984, Neil's Postman's essential guide to the modern media is more relevant than ever. "It's unlikely that Trump has ever read Amusing Ourselves to Death, but his ascent would not have surprised Postman.” -CNN Originally published in 1985, Neil Postman’s groundbreaking polemic about the corrosive effects of television on our politics and public discourse has been hailed as a twenty-first-century book published in the twentieth century. Now, with television joined by more sophisticated electronic media—from the Internet to cell phones to DVDs—it has taken on even greater significance. Amusing Ourselves to Death is a prophetic look at what happens when politics, journalism, education, and even religion become subject to the demands of entertainment. It is also a blueprint for regaining control of our media, so that they can serve our highest goals. “A brilliant, powerful, and important book. This is an indictment that Postman has laid down and, so far as I can see, an irrefutable one.” –Jonathan Yardley, The Washington Post Book World

Book Summary: FBI Assistant Director Mark Goldman, a former NYCPD detective, had only to sign his letter of resignation when two unlikely events change the course of his actions. The murder of a postman and a car fire near the Washington Mall become the first pieces of a deadly international conundrum for Goldman—the impetus he desperately needs to get back on the streets. Years earlier, Mark accepted a promotion to his current, lofty position; an award for thwarting a devastating terrorist attack on the homeland. His title suggests he is the liaison between U.S. and foreign security forces; however, none of his proposals are executed. The Jewish prodigy is caught in a dead-end job until now. Goldman ignores his jurisdiction to search for the lone wolf whose mission is to destroy the very foundation of the U.S. government: the order of succession to the presidency. The hunt draws in Avi Levy, the director of Israel’s Mossad; as well as Mark’s mentor, Jack Warner, a retired FBI director. The case also reunites Goldman with the love of his life, Ruth Sachs, a distinguished Mossad agent. The tale courses from the streets of Paris, to the Zuiderzee, and finally to the U.S. where the lone wolf blends into the anonymity offered by the sheer vastness of the land. Will the al Qaeda-financed lone wolf remain a step ahead of his pursuers, or will the reunited team of Goldman and Sachs eliminate the threat? America’s fate hangs in the balance. The Secret Service was so intrigued with this story that it requested an interview with the author. The idea of a lone wolf eradicating the nation’s entire political structure in a single blow was unthinkable. Possibly because of that interview, four similar plots against our homeland were thwarted. All too often a fine line separates fact from fiction.

Book Summary: As far back as she can remember, Azadeh Moaveni has felt at odds with her tangled identity as an Iranian-American. In suburban America, Azadeh lived in two worlds. At home, she was the daughter of the Iranian exile community, serving tea, clinging to tradition, and dreaming of Tehran. Outside, she was a California girl who practiced yoga and listened to Madonna. For years, she ignored the tense standoff between her two cultures. But college magnified the clash between Iran and America, and after graduating, she moved to Iran as a journalist. This is the story of her search for identity, between two cultures cleaved apart by a violent history. It is also the story of Iran, a restive land lost in the twilight of its revolution. Moaveni's homecoming falls in the heady days of the country's reform movement, when young people demonstrated in the streets and shouted for the Islamic regime to end. In these tumultuous times, she struggles to build a life in a dark country, wholly unlike the luminous, saffron and turquoise-tinted Iran of her imagination. As she leads us through the drug-soaked, underground parties of Tehran, into the hedonistic lives of young people desperate for change, Moaveni paints a rare portrait of Iran's rebellious next generation. The landscape of her Tehran — ski slopes, fashion shows, malls and cafes — is populated by a cast of young people whose exuberance and despair brings the modern reality of Iran to vivid life.

Book Summary: Mary Karr describes herself as a black-belt sinner, and this -- her fourth collection of poems --traces her improbable journey from the inferno of a tormented childhood into a resolutely irreverent Catholicism. Not since Saint Augustine wrote "Give me chastity, Lord -- but not yet!" has anyone brought such smart-assed hilarity to a conversion story. Karr's battle is grounded in common loss (a bitter romance, friends' deaths, a teenage son's leaving home) as well as in elegies for a complicated mother. The poems disarm with the arresting humor familiar to readers of her memoirs, The Liars' Club and Cherry. An illuminating cycle of spiritual poems have roots in Karr's eight-month tutelage in Jesuit prayer practice, and as an afterword, her celebrated essay on faith weaves the tale of how the language of poetry, which relieved her suffering so young, eventually became the language of prayer. Those of us who fret that poetry denies consolation will find clear-eyed joy in this collection.

Book Summary: Over the years I have collected and accumulated a number of, what I call: “Bits and Pieces of Kingdom Wisdom and Revelations.” This book contains some of my favorite, power pack, key words of wisdom and revelations. As you read you will understand my reason for using this title. The little bits and pieces in this book will, either, add too, or change your concept about certain views in Christendom and kingdom insight. The title of this book is not mentioned throughout the book; in reading you will, also, understand why. For instance, this book is not written with much detail, or with exhaustive information about any particular subject. Most of my views are short with a proverbial fl avor; this means, that sometimes it may seem as if you are actually, reading proverbs. Some of these sayings might be viewed as, idioms, motto and some, as I said, have the fl avor of a proverb, which from a kingdom perspective, I believe, fit the messages in this book perfectly. Most of these proverbial sayings were conceived in my spirit and were birthed by the Holy Spirit, often times, when I was in prayer. Many years have passed since I started recording these sayings. I believe this book of Spirit filled wisdom should’ve been blessing people everywhere long ago. My greatest desire for this book is that every reader will discover a greater passion for purpose, and a greater desire to grow in kingdom revelation, which will be beneficial for kingdom living. This book contains a wealth of, what I believe to be: wise spiritual snacks, lunch and occasionally, readers might discover a full meal to dine on, which is—without a doubt—good for the spirit, soul and body.
